TALGA

A Tale of Sustainable Roots
for the Future

In Saudi Arabia, at the Emirate of Asir region, stands one of the oldest trees in the country, a preferred meeting spot for the people of the village where beneath it, many weddings were held, hopes and dreams were discussed. A playground for children and a place for decision making. The tree is called “Ficus vasta”, or as locals named it “Talga”.

The tree of talga has not survived for over 1000 years in harsh conditions, but actually thrived. Talga symbolizes our main values which we want to celebrate with the world: sustainability, creativity, tolerance, diversity and culture.

Deeply rooted in land, we are reminded that since the dawn of time, humans were always driven towards a thriving and sustainable future. Now with the existence of supporting organizations and socially responsible individuals, we believe that this work has never been more important than it is today.

ABOUT SDGs

OVERVIEW

In December 2015, world leaders met at the UN headquarters in New York to sign the international agenda that will provide the blueprint for the world’s development over the next 15 years. The agenda that replaced the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) consists of 17 goals known as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The agenda is “A plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom.”

In the UN Conference of Sustainable Development (Rio +20), Civil societies (the third sector) were givenimportant responsibility roles in the outcome document agreed upon in Rio 2012. If we follow the performance of civil societies internationally, we note that they act on the stage alongside governments in creating awareness and playing their parts in the promotion of sustainable development, positively affecting those countries at social, economic and environmental levels

The third sector is the driving force to implementing sustainable solutions to developmental issues. As we move the execution of the development agendas forward, Talga plays a pivotal role in improving, monitoring and assessing the performance of the third sector, not only through positive pressure but also through the improvement of the quality of the strategies and programs implemented in the civic societies and NGOs of the third sector.
Talga’s unique approach is contextual and will tailor strategies and programs that are relevant to cultural needs, social behaviors and modern times.
